Philip Evers Swope, 79, Platte City, Missouri passed away Friday, December 23, 2016 at Northcare Hospice, Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born October 17, 1937 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Mr. Swope served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War, and was aboard one of the ships blockading Cuba during the missile crisis in 1962.
Philip retired from the Kansas Department of Corrections as a Deputy Warden, and later retired from Harley-Davidson where he was the Chief Security Officer.
He was a member of the Elks Club, Eagles Club, VFW, American Legion, The Correctional Peace Officers Association and the NRA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret “Marti” Swope, and a great-grandson, Johnathan Swope.
Survivors include his children, Penny Stine (John), Grandview, Missouri, Kathryn “Judy” Cook (Roger), Leavenworth, Kansas, Mark Swope (Joannie), Leavenworth, Kansas, Samantha Adams (Frank), Weston, Missouri, Scott Swope (Trudy), Billings, Montana, Charles Swope, Billings, Montana, and Penny Swope, Marysville, Kansas; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren on the way, and sister, Judith Foster (Hezz).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday January 5, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Masonic Lodge 423 ½ Delaware, Leavenworth, Kansas.
