Obituary

Dot Ward, 92, Tonganoxie, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022.
She was born February 2, 1930 in Boise, Idaho to Harvey and Mabel (Lowry) Schiffner. She was raised in Sacramento, California, from age 6 months. She attended Sacramento City College.
She and Gene Raymond Ward eloped in Gardnerville, Nevada on November 23, 1949. He preceded her in death on September 25, 2022.
Dot and Gene had two sons, Micthell Ray Ward and Scott Lee Ward. She went back to college after raising their sons, first at KCK Community College and later at KU.
She worked for Maupintour (a tour operator) for 15 years and retired as Sales Administrator. She also was a contract singer for the Christian Science Church in Denver, Colorado, and the VA Hospital in Lansing, Kansas. She was a commercial actress over a period of 15 years.
She volunteered as an usher for the Lied Center, was a hospital volunteer in Denver, Colorado, and Moorhead, Minnesota, an audio reader for 16 years, Yellowstone Camp host, a reading tutor and volunteered at her church.
Dot was a member of the Business Women’s Organization in Sacramento, California, and Lawrence, Kansas, the Vintage Players in Lawrence, P.E.O. Chapter H.S. in Tonganoxie for 16 years, the Tonganoxie Community Theater for 20 years, Sweet Adelines for 16 years in Denver, Fargo, North Dakota, Lawrence, and Overland Park, was a singer/actress, and was in many large classical choruses.
She said her greatest gifts were her husband, Gene, her sons, Mitch and Scott and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her happiest times were at family gatherings and swimming.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Gene; and her parents.
Survivors include sons, Mitchell Ward and Scott Ward, Sr.; grandchildren, Raymond, Scott Lee Jr., and B.J. Ward, Ashley VanOmmerron, Brandon Ward and Michelle Ward Savage; great-grandchildren, Avary, Carson, Gavriell, Randy, Vincent, Delaney and Guinevere Ward.
Dot was a member of the Kansas Cremation Service. The family suggests memorial contributions to Lawrence Humane Society, Audio Reader (in Lawrence), Lawrence Theater, and the Tonganoxie Methodist Church.
