Obituary
Lillian passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 5, surrounded by her loving children, who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Her 96-year journey began in Springfield, MO, where she was born. She moved to Kansas City, MO at an early age and attended J.J. Pershing Grade School. She graduated from Southeast High School and worked for Wolferman’s, Inc. during World War II.
In 1946, Lillian went to work at Fox Midwest Theaters, Inc., where she met the love of her life, Nemo Batrick. Together they raised and educated four wonderful children.
A talented artist and poet, Lillian was very involved in her community and church. She served as secretary of the Center Planning and Development Council, working with City Council, City Hall, and the Board of Zoning Commissioners. Involved in politics at the local level, Lillian earned a Key to the City for her many contributions to the community.
Lillian showed her love and support for her children by a deep involvement in their schools and school activities. She staged and co-produced musicals for Notre Dame de Sion High School, collaborating with set decorators and scenic designers from Starlight Theater. Also active at Rockhurst High School, she spent numerous hours working for the annual Sale-o-Rama.
When her children grew older, Lillian accepted positions at Rheuark Brokerage, then Sewell Plastics (Con Star), retiring in 1991. She enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and bridge, and doing the New York Times crossword puzzle each day. She loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren, her Bonner Springs friends, art, music, coffee, licorice, and all holidays, especially the 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas, when she hosted many large family gatherings. Lillian was a member of St. Thomas More Parish, where she served as Eucharistic Minister.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Nemo Batrick, her brother Jack, and her sister Marcell. Survivors include daughter Julie Hess; daughter Joanie (Jerry) Beck; son Ken Batrick; daughter Kate Connor (John); grandchildren Michael Hess (Chelsea); Brian Beck (Dana); Matthew Beck (Jenni); Michael Batrick (Janani); Thomas Batrick; Molly Connor and Madeline Connor; great grandchildren Caroline Beck; Elliott Hess; and Lillian Hess; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Rd, KC MO, on Friday, September 9, at 9:30 am, followed by Mass at 11:00. Memorial contributions may be made to “Neighbors in Need” c/o St. Thomas More Church.
