Lawrence Thomas Colwell died November 7, 2012 after a long and arduous battle with cancer at his home.
Lawrence Thomas Colwell was born August 6, 1939 to Tom D. and Alice B. (Tenhulzen) Colwell. In 1942, the family moved to McPaul, IA, and later to Westboro, Missouri, where he attended school. In 1951 the children moved back to St. Joseph, Missouri.
In 1956, Larry joined the United States Navy serving his country on the U.S.S. Porterfield and was a lifetime member of V.F.W.
While stationed in California, he met and married Donna D. Deel. They lived in California till moving to Platte City, Missouri in 1978 where he continued to work for the trucking industry until he retired. Preceding him in death was his mother, Alice in 1951; father, Tom in 1987; Iva in 1998; brother, Dwayne in 2005; three brothers in-law, Harold, Kenneth, and Orville.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; children, Lawrence A., Deborah A., Robert L. (Sandy); sisters, Kathryn, Helen, Ruby (Al), Barbara; brother, Keith (Dolly); sister-in-law, Audrey; grandchildren, Brianna, Aubrey, Mishelle, Alan, Richard (whose many acts of kindness are greatly appreciated), Dustin, Jackie, Randy, Austin; ten great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services: 3:00 P.M. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorial gifts to Kansas City Hospice.
