Obituary

John W. Zimmerman
1934-2015

John W. Zimmerman, Maryville, MO, passed away on May 4, 2015 in Maryville, MO after a long illness. He was born October 7, 1934 in Maryville, MO to Chris and Florence Busby Zimmerman. On April 18, 1959 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lucille Riley. The Zimmermans recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.
John graduated from Maryville High School in 1952. In the summer of 1957 he enlisted for service as he had been a member of the National Guard. He was to be sent overseas and leave in the fall of that year. During that summer, he met Lucille and shortly thereafter lost his right hand due to a farming accident during the fall harvest. John overcame this obstacle without complaint, as he did all obstacles in his life. He served as Nodaway County Clerk for 32 years, was a member of the Lion's Club, active in St. Gregory's Church, and farmed all of his life.
John is survived by his wife Lucille; daughter Debbie (Zimmerman) Snyder, spouse Stan, sons Andy and Sam; son Kelly Zimmerman, partner Jessica Whaley and his sons Kirk and Zack; son Rob Zimmerman, spouse Cammi and children Johnathan (spouse Katey and their daughter K'Lynne), Jackson, and step-daughter Darbi Fuhrman; son Mick Zimmerman, partner Julie Hewitt and her grandchildren ReAnna Hewitt and Kellin Wilkie; and daughter Sherry (Zimmerman) Schoonbeck, spouse Mark and their children Allison and Erik.
He is also survived by six siblings, Dick, Elkhorn, NE; Phil, Savannah, MO; Steve, Rolla, MO; Chuck, Peoria, AZ; Dan, Ada, OK; and Esther (Zimmerman) Coffelt, spouse Jerry, Ravenwood, MO; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Norbert, Kenneth, Jerry, Christine Upschulte, Rita Parker, and Helen Bowers.
The family would like for John to be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was loved by all, kind, sweet, fun-loving, and sometimes ornery.
A mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Gregory's Catholic Church or School, 315 S. Davis, Maryville, MO 64468, SSM Hospice at Home, 2332 S. Main, Maryville, MO 64468 or Nodaway Nursing Home (Tiffany Care Center), 22371 State Hwy 46, Maryville, MO 64468. John was a member of the Missouri Cremation Service.
