Haldon W. Varner
1929 - 2007
Haldon Wayne Varner, 78, Independence, Missouri, died Friday, December 28, 2007 at the farm in Union Star.
Mr. Varner was born October 2, 1929, in Ellisnore, Missouri. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He married Dixie Jo Payne in Union Star on November 11, 1950, who survives of the home.
He was an Operating Engineer Local 101 for 20 years and Amoco for 19 years, ten of those years residing in Webster, Texas.
Mr. Varner was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. and Bessie Eliza (Greer) Varner; and great aunt Calla Varner.
He was a Chief Petty Officer of U.S. Naval Reserve Ret.; and a member of the Masonic Ancient Craft Lodge 377 of King City; American Legion Post 132, King City; Orchid Christian, Union Star; Forest Bend, TX volunteer fire dept.; National Rifle Association.
(Additional Survivors:) six children, Sunni Wilson and husband, Kenneth, Warsaw, MO, Sondra Hill and husband, Doyle, Independence, MO, Randall Varner and wife, Debbie, St. Joseph, Michael Varner and wife, Joan, Independence, Carrel Varner and wife, Melanie, Union Star and Shauna Pierce and husband, Jeff, Kansas City, MO; 22 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a brother, Carlyle and Betty Varner and family, Topeka, KS.
Vistiation 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Union Star FFA. Mr. Varner will be cremated following the visitation under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
