Obituary

George Ferrel Hunt
1948-2025

George Ferrel Hunt, 76, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025, in Independence, Missouri.
He was born on September 26, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Harold Raymond Hunt and Ruth Leigh Jewett of Butler, MO.
He was born AGAIN 29 years later.
Nearly everyone in his life called him by his middle name--Ferrel. “George” was reserved for and cherished by his grandchildren-Coty Rea & Carl Alvin Ritchey, Jr. (C.J.); Keara Shon & Cooper Ray Brown; Kale Alan Wheeler; Blaine Anthony & Hayliegh Greiner-and his great grandchildren-Leah Rea Batton, Carly Shay Ritchey, Rita Lorraine & Sebastian Lee Greiner and Joshua Michael Brown. They call him “Grampa or G-pa George.”
Ferrel was preceded in death by his parents and his elder sister, Barbara Jane. He is survived by his daughter, Lindy Shay Wheeler and her husband Keith Alan Wheeler, their descendants-all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren; and by his younger sister, Mary Francis Panuco and her descendants—Mark Jason & Benita Marie Panuco and Devin Nathaniel Shores.
Ferrel married at age 19 and then shipped off to war to serve his country during the Vietnam conflict. After the service, his wife left him with a 2 year old daughter and a determination to make it work. He started his working career at Western Electric in Lee Summit, MO and worked there for twenty years to provide and care for himself and his only daughter.
After being laid off, he settled into custodial work for the Raytown, MO school district. In the following 20 years he worked there, he eventually became the 2nd in charge of the district where he touched the lives of his coworkers, the teachers and even the students attending the schools where he served.
Eventually, he retired, but never an idle man, decided to begin a new job as a librarian in Kansas City, MO where he worked an additional few years until his health became an impediment.
But even that didn’t slow him down. Without a regular 9 to 5, he now had more time to invest into his passions. Although Ferrel had some college education, most of his skills were self taught, ranging from electrical engineering to photography to interior design. He was a true artist of his crafts shown in the details of his many designs, photos and creations throughout the years.
Ferrel's true passion, however, was spreading the Word of Jesus Christ to those in need. He sacrificed and spent a large majority of his time caring for the sick and dying, reaching out to the lonely, making charity and missions trips to the Navajo reservations and even going door to door trying to win more souls to the Lord. Thousands of hearts and souls have been touched, healed and saved through the sacrifices of his time and energy.
The last ounce of energy he had to spare he spent on others. Over the span of his life, he continued to touch the hearts of people with a comforting aura of peace and an honest heart. His kindness and loyalty to his fellow man has left an everlasting mark on so many people's hearts and lives, especially those of his closest family and friends.
He was a true servant of his Lord and Savior and on a cold day in February, his Lord called him home.
“Ye shall know them by their fruits…” Matthew 7:16
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Matthew 25:21.
