Fred Shade
1946-2024
Fred Shade, 78, Atchison, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
He was born on April 8, 1946 to Lee and Anna (Heugel) Shade outside of Easton, Kansas.
He married Betty Ann Lamar on February 22, 1969.
Fred worked for Atchison Casting for 33 years before retiring. He also worked for Gigstad Fertilizer Company.
He was a member of the Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church.
He was the woodworking teacher for the Atchison County 4-H Club for over 20 years. Fred loved mentoring the children he interacted with and had a special bond with them, lovingly referring to them as his “grandkids”.
Fred enjoyed woodworking and was a master craftsman. He would build anything for anyone and loved helping others. He also enjoyed playing cards, hunting, and fishing.
He had a great sense of humor and would always have something ornery to say. He also had a caring heart and was a friend to many. Fred was blessed with many special friendships in his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Anna Shade, and his siblings, Carl Shade, Clarabelle Shade, Mary Wiley and Larry Shade.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Shade; children, Teresa Atzenweiler (Dan) and Brandon Shade (Jennifer); grandchildren, Dalton (Haley), Garrett, Caigen (Gabrielle), and Coy Atzenweiler, Emma and Rae Scott; great-grandchildren, Axel, Bowen, Declan and Cian Atzenweiler; siblings, Robert Shade (Cherie), Stella Hogan, Richard Shade, Jean Shimp, and Verda Visocsky; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
