Obituary
Frank Edward Hayes
1942-2007
Frank Edward Hayes Sr., 65 died September 3, 2007 after a courageous battle with Prostate Cancer.
He was born August 19, 1942 in Caruthersville, MO to Reverend Boston Frank Hayes and James Ella Hayes. Frank started singing at the early age of 3 and grew up in a family filled with musical talent. His lifetime dream was to make it big in the music industry. In the early 60's he left home and moved to California to pursue a career in music. His accomplishments in California include background vocals for the Isley Bros, Leon Russell and Albert Collins, as well as singing with the groups Toto, the Younghearts, and Sly and the Family Stone. He also was a regular on the Gong Show, which aired back in the 70's. Frank ended his secular music pursuit in the early 80's, and upon his rededication to Christ, reverted back to his gospel roots. He was Worship Leader at Lighthouse Cathedral, Evangelistic Church of God and Christ, and Alta Loma Assembly of God all in California.
He was Worship Leader at Liberty Assembly of God, Liberty MO and assisted with Worship at Grace Fellowship, Cameron, MO, where he currently attended church. His music and anointing truly blessed a multitude of people throughout his life, and will continue to be an inspiration to many people in the music industry.
Frank moved back to Missouri in the late 80's and was employed at Sonny Hill Motors, Platte City, MO, Double J and Son Industries, St Joseph, MO and Snorkel, Elwood, KS.
Frank fought a courageous battle with Prostate Cancer for 9 years, and was truly an inspiration to everyone he met. He leaves behind a myriad of friends, as well as his family who will miss him dearly and were inspired by his valiant attitude toward his illness. He never complained, leaving us to complain only of his loss.
On February 14, 1998 he married Marcia Rowe, who survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, Boston Blake Connor Hayes of the home; step-son, Ryan Meers of the home; daughter, Frankie Burks, Grandview, MO; son, Frank Hayes Jr., Stewartsville, MO; son, Greg Whitaker, San Bernardino, CA; two sisters, Helen Hood, Kansas City, MO and Freddie Fair, Chicago, IL, six grandchildren, Courtnee, Stacia, Briana, Tiara, Riah and Tyler, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by father Rev Boston Frank Hayes and mother James Ella Hayes, daughter Bridgette Hayes, sisters Wava Elijah, Lovie Johnson, Vernice Green.
The body has been cremated. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, September 7, 2007 at 6:30 pm at Grace Evangelical, 5103 S 50th St, St Joseph, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Frank E. Hayes, Sr. Memorial Fund at Farmers Independent Bank, 208 Main Street, Stewartsville, MO 64490.
