Darrell L. Kerns
1929-2018
Darrell Leroy Kerns, 88, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Living Community.
He was born June 7, 1929 in Hemple, Missouri to Silas E. and Lula F. Kerns who both preceded him in death.
Darrell married Eleanor M. Maas on October 11, 1953 in Sioux City, Iowa. They made their home in St. Joseph after Darrell finished his Air Force service in 1955. Darrell was a member of the American Legion Post 359 for 30 years.
He worked for International Harvester as a truck mechanic until being offered the manager position of Wheeling Disposal Service, Inc. He retired in 1998.
Darrell was also preceded in death by his sister, Doris Kempf; and brother, Eldon Kerns.
Survivors include his son, Junior Kerns (Bonnie), Las Cruces, NM; daughter, Susan Steeby (Caryl), St. Joseph; three grandchildren, Laura Robins (Rad), Conroe, Texas, Brenda Johnson (Jeff), Wichita Falls, Texas, David Steeby, Lehi, Utah; six great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside Services & Inurnment 10:00 A.M. April 21, Kerns-Freeman Cemetery, Easton, Missouri. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Kerns-Freeman Cemetery. Online guest book and obituary at www.meierhoffer.com.
